“I’m having a private party, ain’t nobody here but me, my angles, and my guitar singin’ baby look how far we’ve come” – India Arie
As an entrepreneur, even as an aspiring entrepreneur we tend to be hard on ourselves when we haven’t met our goals or when we aren’t in the place we feel like we should be in. We have to sometimes stop and think about what we have already accomplished.
An entrepreneur has a go getter mindset, having that type of mindset is a good thing because you stay motivated to chase your dreams, you take risk, you make sacrifices, and so on. The downfall of having a go getter mindset is we take things too far. We want success so bad that we can taste it which makes us go overboard and think we don’t need rest, time to ourselves, a social life, etc. We let our goals and dreams consume us so much that we forget to live our lives.
When we forget to live our lives it’ll come to a point where you get burnt out and you feel like you don’t have any energy to do anything. It’s hard to get out of this state because you pushed yourself so hard in the beginning. Remember that entrepreneurship is a journey that you should enjoy. That’s the main reason we embark on this journey, because we want to enjoy what we do every day, which is something that is fulfilling and makes us happy.
Take time to yourself to have a private party, enjoy yourself. Do something that you enjoy doing other than working. Celebrate yourself and celebrate your accomplishments. The best way to stay motivated is to give yourself recognition for what you’ve completed thus far. Don’t think about what you still have on your to do list or the goals you have set for the next three year. Celebrate the NOW, think about how far you’ve come, think about the hurdles you’ve jumped to get where you are today. When you think back and reflect on what you’ve accomplished you will be 10 times more productive and motivated once you’ve celebrated yourself.
If you don’t get the rest you need or celebrate what you’ve become how can you reach your full potential? The next time you get overwhelmed, stop and think about how much more productive you would be if you took a moment to yourself to regroup.
It’s nothing wrong with celebrating your accomplishments!
